We are excited to introduce this hands-on, fun resource for your child! This packet includes 219 pop-it cards to help your learner move from phoneme awareness to phonics. To use, students will say the word and tap (pop) the sounds in the word. Optional for more advanced students: use the recording sheets to spell the words. Feel free to use play dough or connecting cubes if you do not have pop-its.
Why is sound mapping important? When learning to read, new words aren’t processed solely through the visual part of our brain. Instead of remembering words as pictures, our brain quickly processes the letter-sound relationship through the auditory part of our brain. Studies overwhelming show that developing letter-sound knowledge (phonemic awareness) is the biggest key to reading success. Being able to isolate the sounds in each word on the cards will help children build a strong foundation for their reading future.
